CONTEST RULES -
Read completely please, rules 1 through 11
1. Contestant must be at least 18 years of age and from within a 175 mile radius of Jackson TN.
2. Contestant may range from amateur to semi-professional status (semi-professional definition: having been paid for comedy before, but not in a paid as 'headliner scale' capacity).
3. Contest begins at 7:30 pm each Wednesday night, November 4th 2009 through December 23rd 2009. Maximum of 12 contestants per preliminary week. There will be six (6) weeks of "Preliminaries" (11/4 to 12/9) Top 2 for each week get to perform on Friday or Saturday night of that same week during the 'weekend comedy show' AND advance to the semi-finals. Contestants who do NOT advance, are welcome to reapply for subsequent weeks. Those who advanced will compete in the Semi-finals on December 16th. From those twelve (12), six (6) Finalists will be chosen to compete in the FINALS on Wednesday, December 23rd. The Grand Prize winner receives prize pack to be determined, with 2nd and 3rd place also receiving prizes. Grand Prize currently includes cash, promotional kit (including photo session/logo design/graphic design for promo page, excluding printing), two (2) paid performances at South Street in 2010, and other prizes still being collected from sponsors.

4. All material must be original, but does not have to be traditional stand up. Parody songs, poetry, etc also qualifies. Funny, is funny. Regarding original material: severe points penalities will be incurred if contestant uses specific material which is obviously not original. While it is possible for concepts and/or punchlines to be accidentally copied, it will at the Judges discretion to determine if the violation is flagrant. Judges decisions are final.
5. Preliminary rounds will give each contestant 5 minutes of stage time. Contestants are expected to adhere to the 5 minute rule. Semi-final contestants expand to an 8 minute allowance. And Finals night will be expanded to 10 minutes per contestant.
6. Judging will consist of three (3) Judges who will judge based upon material, stage presence, creativity, and audience response. Additionally, a % of the vote will be determined by the audience, who will have scoring ballots as well. Audience scoring options will be narrow enough to provide an accurate representation, without allowing sandbagging.
7. Register by emailing your desire to participate to the contest coordinator, via the contest webpage at: www.southstreetcomedy.com Contestants are required to register well in advance of the show. It is encouraged that they register early, as it IS possible that all slots will fill and the opportunity will pass. Contestants are NOT allowed to choose which week they may participate.
Contestants will be contacted regarding which week they will perform, week 1 through 6. It is advised that contestants encourage their friends and family members to attend, to help provide audience reaction and voting ballots.
8. Contestants are required to be at the venue no later than 7:00 pm the night of their appearance unless otherwise agreed upon by contest coordinator . Failure to appear will result in permanent ban from the contest. It should also be noted that potential contestants who attempted to register but were too late---would be wise to attend each week's show, as slots will be filled on a first-come first-serve basis IF a contestant fails to appear.
9. Agreement to participate in the contest allows the comedy club, radio station, and other associated sponsors to use contestant's name, likeness, and/or photograph and/or sound for promotional purposes with no requirement for reimbursement.
10. Comedy Club, Radio Station, associated sponsors, nor any individual or organizer associated with the contest may be held liable for any injury or death which may occur with regard to participation, attendance, or travel to or from this event.
11. These rules may be amended at any time at the sole discretion of the contest organizer, with new contest rules posted on the website at www.southstreetcomedy.com and additional copy available at the contest site 559 Wiley Parker Road Jackson TN each night of the contest.
